Hero is a remake of Subhash Ghai’s directed 1983 film of the same name, which starred Jackie Shroff. The film marks the debut of Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi, and Athiya Shetty, the daughter of Sunil Shetty. Story is the same as the original 1983 film. Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi) is a gangster who kidnaps Mumbai’s police chief’s (Tigmanshu Dhulia) daughter Radha (Athiya Shetty) on instructions from his boss Pasha (Aditya Pancholi).
He poses as a policeman to whisk Radha away by telling her he is following instructions from the police to take her out of the city. When Sooraj does confess to Radha that he has kidnapped her, she has already fallen in love with him. The usual follows- with Sooraj fighting back to save his love.
Nikhil Advani chooses to follow the original movie without bringing freshness in the storytelling. The result is an outdated movie fit for the ‘80s. Screenplay is shoddy and in many places flouts logic. In fact, the film is unintentionally funny with random subplots.
As for performance, both Sooraj and Athiya, have a lot of work ahead of them. Athiya overacts and is plain silly. Sooraj looks impressive, but his dialogue delivery needs to be worked on.
Clearly, this film will not put them in the big league. Stay away and watch old Hero instead.
